Two purchases, not one
How does buying in a country club community work?
At most private clubs, the home and the membership are two purchases: the club runs its own application, initiation fee and monthly dues. Pick the club and the membership type first, then the house.
Which membership do I need?
- Full golf. Golf, dining, pool and courts. The highest initiation fee and dues.
- Social. Dining, pool, fitness and events, without golf.
- Sports or tennis. Courts, pool and fitness, at many clubs.
- Equity or non-equity. Equity members own a share of the club; ask whether any part of the initiation fee is refunded.
Which clubs are near Denver?
- Castle Pines Golf Club and the Country Club at Castle Pines. Private clubs inside gated Castle Pines Village.
- The Pinery Country Club, Parker. Private, 27 holes.
- Hiwan Golf Club, Evergreen. Private mountain club.
- Red Rocks Country Club, Morrison. Private, founded 1974.
- Denver Country Club and Boulder Country Club. Private clubs in Denver's Country Club neighborhood and in Boulder.
How does joining work?
- Application and sponsors. Many clubs ask for member sponsors and an interview.
- Initiation fee. Paid once; ask about waitlists and transfer rules.
- Dues and minimums. Monthly dues and, at many clubs, a food and beverage minimum.
- Timing. Ask the club how long approval takes before you set the closing date.
Quick answers
Country club communities: questions, answered.
Does buying a home include club membership?
At most private clubs, no. The club sells membership separately. A few communities require it; ask the club before you write an offer.
What does it cost to join a private club?
Each club sets its own initiation fee, dues and minimums. Ask the membership office for the current schedule.
Is there a social membership without golf?
Many clubs offer social or sports memberships for dining, the pool, fitness and courts.
Which clubs have tennis and pickleball?
Many private clubs have both, including Harmony Club in Timnath and The Pinery Country Club in Parker. Ask each club for its sports schedule.
